Clintonville Farmers’ Market // Season Opens // 2011

STUFF YOUR LOCAL ORGANIC MOUTHS

CH: Saturday was opening day for the Clintonville Farmers’ Market in, uh, Clintonville. We headed over to see the good eats. It’s early season, but the farmers showed up with a great variety of fresh deliciousness. Just in time, too. My CSA bag has been filled with nothing but melted snow and dirt since November.

ZK: Fresh air and fresh food: A complete 180 from the last event we covered. If you haven’t been to this market yet, you should go check it out – especially if you’ve been craving leafy green lettuces, they’ve got those. It’s every saturday morning now from 9-noon. Click the links below for more info on the market and some of its vendors.

Bandemonium 2011 // The Summit

EAT, EAT, YA FUCKIN’ HIPSTERS!
ZK: A multi-challenge St. Patrick’s day eating contest that pitted local bands against each other and better judgement…

CH: This shit made me sick.

ZK: Oh yeah. Vicky and Lou, the hosts from The Summit, really outdid themselves coming up with the challenges. Nothing like watching warm beer wash down a mouthful of gas station sandwich and half chewed slim jim.

CH: My favorite contests weren’t even on the list. The beer shotgun champ embarrassed at least five challengers with lightning quick shotguns. Seriously, like two seconds. I turned around and she was done.

Kris and Aaron // Columbus Park of Roses // Wedding

THE RAIN AINT NO THANG!

CH: Any couples planning an outdoor wedding in Columbus can learn a thing or two from Aaron and Kris Shear. We were at the Whetstone Park of Roses when the rain decided to come down just before guests were arriving…and the Wedding Mall was uncovered, getting soupier by the minute. Aaron was quick to act, preparing a nearby pavilion to keep everyone dry during the ceremony. I don’t think Kris even knew what Aaron was up to.

ZK: Aww, their first fight, but I’m sure these two blokes worked it out over some pints at The Elevator, right mates?

CH: Um..Zak, The Elevator’s not an Irish pub, and blokes are men. Also, why would they fight about a great idea?

ZK:  It sure was a great idea, and we got some beautiful shots of the pavilion covered ceremony with the scenic park as the backdrop. Because their original location was rained out, we decided to return to the Park of Roses the following week to do some portraits of the newlyweds at sunset, and I’m so glad we did. I love this set of images, the light was fantastic and really made all the colors of the park come to life.

CH: Yeah. Perfect light. A good-looking couple. Gorgeous backdrop scenery. Makes taking good pictures a little easier…cheater.

Jen and Nate // Highbanks Metro Parks // Columbus Wedding

CAN’T GET ENOUGH SUPER GOLDEN CRISP
ZK:  One of my favorite moments from this wedding was asking Jen and Nate to step into some tall grass so we could take some bridal shots in front of the amazing backdrop of the Highbanks Metro Parks. Jen moved so beautifully through this field that I didn’t have to say a word, it was just CLICK CLICK CLICK with my camera. Then when Nate joined her it was the same thing. They seemed so at ease and comfortable, both in front of the camera and with each other.

CH: Natural!    Models that IS! Light that IS! Setting that IS! (snaps suspenders, winks, and softshoes off stage)

ZK: I love these sunset weddings. You can’t ask for better light.  Mmmm…warm, golden, light.

Jane // Glen Echo // Portrait shoot

SHE’S GOT CHOPS!

So, we meet up with our model Jane just outside the Glen Echo Ravine in Columbus to talk about what she has in mind for this portrait shoot. She tells us she’s got a few wardrobe choices as she pulls out some reasonable selections along with this bright, shimmery, blue/purple mass of fluffy fabric which she is calling a dress. Now, I’m no fashion expert, but this dress has me really worried: I just don’t see this working at all,  but Jane assures us it’s going to be great. I respond with a very skeptical “Okay” and tell her we’d better save that dress for last.

I should have just trusted her from the beginning because the photos of her in this dress are my favorites from the shoot.  I love the way she poses with it, using it as a prop so as to call just enough attention to it. It becomes an intentional choice and a second character in the photos. We are now focused the story of Jane and The Dress in this brightly colored, twisted-fairytale little world. Truly amazing work by the talented model!
