These two amazing people put together a truly unique wedding on the grounds of Camp Mary Orton, and I am so glad I was asked to photograph it. Their personalities came through in every detail of the day. Let me run through a quick overview of events so you’ll see what I mean: an early morning zipline over the camp’s ravine, beautiful outdoor ceremony, tons of highly delicious middle eastern food, vintage dinner plates as wedding favors, live performance by The Casey Anthony Trio with DJ KGBeatz proving the dance music, a full court basketball game, Mikey’s Late Night Slice food truck, vegan cakes by Pattycake Bakery, and an insane Ace of Cups karaoke after party.

Thank you, Lesley and Jason, a thousand times over, for allowing me to be there to document all of this.
And another big thanks to the talented Mike Stempler for being an awesome 2nd shooter.

I’ve known Elena for many years, so I was honored when she asked me to photograph her and Bryan on their wedding day. They planned for a beautiful outdoor morning ceremony at the Franklin Park Conservatory, and that’s exactly what they had. Congratulations you two! Everything was perfect.

Lesley and Jason’s engagement session was booked for the beginning of July, which turned out to be just a couple days after a major storm left most of Columbus without power. The forecast told us the weather was going to cooperate the day of the shoot so we went ahead with our outdoors-y plans. Things started off great; it was beautiful and sunny. But, apparently all that changed while we were getting some shots inside Bernie’s. We returned outside to very different weather, so we went to wait out the storm and snap some pics in the power-outage-having, candle lit, Ace of Cups. After a little while of studying the radar, Jason and Lesley decided the weather wasn’t going to let up, so we rescheduled our Grange Audubon Park plans for a drier, more pleasant evening. I had such a great time with these two and can’t wait to shoot their outdoor wedding this month! And if it does rain, I say Bring It On! I’ll be covered.

Elena and Bryan were very brave. They agreed to meet me at 6 in the morning to take some pictures for their engagement shoot. That’s a pretty early wake up call to have to deal with on a weekend, but I’m so glad they did. The light was amazing, and we were able to get indoors before we felt the full effects of Columbus’s record heat wave.
90 degrees by 10am, no thanks! My hair would melt off.

When I’m not taking photographs, I’m hanging artwork at a contemporary art center here in Columbus.  A lot of times, with that job comes other related responsibilities…like being a courier. In this instance, that meant riding on a semi full of artwork from Columbus to Seattle to make sure all the art is delivered exactly like it’s supposed to.

I spent 49 straight hours on the road getting to know my gracious truck driving hosts, husband and wife team Ed and Elisa. They got me all set up on the top bunk in the back of the cab which, lucky for me, had a home theater installed and small windows on both sides so I could watch DVDs and the midwest. We were on a tight schedule so we didn’t have time to stop and explore, but I was able to snap photos out of the cab windows throughout the trip.

Most importantly though, our cargo was delivered safely, oxen remained healthy, and no one died of dysentery.

Now that this school year’s just about over, I thought I’d share some shots we took for Carly’s senior portraits back in the fall. We returned to the Park of Roses on what turned out to be a beautiful, sunny, and breezy autumn evening. That, combined with Carly’s enthusiasm and ease in front of the camera, really made our jobs easy. Thanks, Carly, and thanks weather; you were both awesome.

CH: We headed up to Cleveland recently for Jim and Bonnie’s wedding. They picked a gorgeous setting for an evening wedding at the Old Courthouse near the lakefront. Tall ceilings, pillars, and arches: the cornerstones of beautiful backgrounds. Plus even more architecture references.

ZK: BAAAAH NANANANAAAHHH….NAAAH NAAAH NAH

ZK: The architecture was impressive; I believe it was one of Ivo Shandor’s earlier constructions …no studying.

The caterers, A Taste of Excellence, prepared amazing food, and Jim and Bonnie selected a lot of nice details that transformed the empty courthouse into an elegant party space. Congratulations Garrisons; Everything was beautiful!
